"I Can Quit Any Time I Want" - So Why Don't I?

Maybe you look at your friends who have a beer or two and then quit, and you wonder, “How do they do that?”  Maybe for you it’s different: one drink leads to another which leads to another which leads to another, and then you wake up the next day feeling sick and ashamed and unsure of what all you did the night before.  And you vow never to let it happen again, and then the next time someone offers you a drink you do it all over again.

Can I smoke and be a Christian?

A Christian is someone who has faith in Jesus as Savior (John 3:16).  There are people who trust that Jesus is their Savior and who also smoke.  So, yes, I can smoke and be a Christian.

But that doesn’t really answer the question.  Should a Christian smoke?

If smoking is against my conscience, I should not smoke.  Doing things that are against my conscience can weaken and even destroy my faith (Hebrews 10:22).

Envy

Envy is a feeling of discontent or ill will when someone else has advantages or possessions that you would like to have. The sin of envy has been a tool of destruction Satan has used since the Garden of Eden. Envy is clearly illustrated in the story of Cain and Abel. Cain's envy of the birthright Abel received led to Abel's murder. The envy Joseph's brothers had for his relationship with their father led to the sin of deceit.
